On November 12, 1992, the Central Identification Lab-Hawaii (CILHI, now
DPAA) identified the remains of Gunnery Sergeant Joseph Felix
Trujillo, missing from the Vietnam War.
Gunnery Sergeant Trujillo, who joined the U.S. Marine Corps from
New Mexico, was a member of Company D, 1st Battalion, 1st Marine
Regiment, 1st Marine Division. On September 3, 1966, GySgt
Trujillo was attending a class on artillery application in the
vicinity of Da Nang, South Vietnam. During the class, a mine was
detonated and GySgt Trujillo was killed. Initial efforts to
locate his remains were unsuccessful. In 1992, the Vietnamese
government repatriated remains which were later identified as
those of GySgt Trujillo.
Gunnery Sergeant Trujillo is memorialized on the Courts of the
Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
