LT COL VINCENT JOHN CONNOLLY

Return to Service Member Profiles

On August 2, 1984, the Central Identification Lab-Hawaii (CILHI, now DPAA) identified the remains of Lieutenant Colonel Vincent John Connolly, missing from the Vietnam War.

Lieutenant Colonel Connolly, who joined the U.S. Air Force from Pennsylvania, served with the 20th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron. On November 4, 1966, he piloted an RF-101C Voodoo (serial number 56-93) on a reconnaissance mission over North Vietnam. During the mission, the Voodoo was struck by a surface-to-air missile and Lt Col Connolly was killed. Hostile presence in the area inhibited search efforts during the war. In 1984, the Vietnamese government repatriated remains which were later identified as those of Lieutenant Colonel Connolly.

Lieutenant Colonel Connolly is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
