As I noted in our conversation, if the name you provided is spelled
correctly, I do NOT find
a listing in the SEAL Database (end of WWII to the Present Day) for
anyone named JEFFREY
A. SNYDER.
I have also examined possible alternate spellings, and names with
similar pronunciations without finding any that might be applicable.
While there are men listed in the SEAL Database with the last name “SNYDER”,
none of those men has the first/middle names “JEFFREY
A.” Additionally, none of those men are graduates of
class 129. Unless
he has undertaken the unlikely action of a legal name change (an
action for which there would be court documentation) since his claimed
attendance at BUD/S training, and based upon the information you have
provided, I can state conclusively
that JEFFREY A. SNYDER has NEVER COMPLETED SEAL training, and he is
not now, nor was he ever a Navy SEAL or a Navy UDT “Frogman”.
When
members of the Naval Special Warfare community meet others who claim
similar service, but whom they do not recognize, there is a
conversational exchange of information that establishes the bona fides
of each to the other. There is no set formula for this exchange, nor
for the information that is exchanged, but it ALWAYS takes place, and
the REAL Naval Special Warfare members can ALWAYS spot a phony as a
result of this exchange. If you have an opportunity to speak with the
man at some point in the future, I might suggest that you to ask Mr. SNYDER
“WHAT NAME DID YOU USE
during SEAL training… since there is no record of your participation
using the name SNYDER” I
have no doubt that you’ve been told that much of the information
about Mr. SNYDER’s
“SEAL activities” is either classified or sensitive and cannot be
provided… including specifics about his claimed attendance at BUD/S.
I can assure you that he was NOT a BUD/S graduate and he was NEVER A
US NAVY SEAL. No one gets to the SEAL Teams without first completing
BUD/S Training. There are records of every man who has qualified for
the title of “SEAL”; there have been and will continue to be
secret missions, but there are NO secret SEALs… we know them all. Mr.
SNYDER’s claims of
being involved in the combat actions in GRENADA are typical of many
SEAL imposters… since the actions of the Navy SEALs involved in that
conflict have been widely dramatized on TV and the information is
available to everyone… particularly the specific details regarding
actions at the Governor’s residence. In actuality, BUD/S Class 129
did not graduate until late in 1984, and the actions in Grenada took
place in 1983. Mr. SNYDER’s
claimed BUD/S class had not even CONVENED when the combat actions in
Grenada occurred. You
have reported Mr. SNYDER
as having claimed that he cannot risk testifying in court because of
his “involvement in Nicaragua”… and the potential for him to be
“charged with murder”. This statement is absolute bunk. Military
duty, military assignments, and actions carried out at the behest of
lawful military superiors in the Navy’s SEAL Teams are not criminal
acts. That particular line of “BS” works in the Hollywood movies,
but in real life is has absolutely no foundation. As Mr. SNYDER is
using his false claims to avoid involvement in legal actions, it is
appropriate that you obtain formal/official confirmation of the FALSE
NATURE of his claims from the US Navy. ... Thank you
again for your concern in this matter, and for your assistance in
upholding the honor of the US Navy SEAL Teams. Based upon you provided
in describing his actions and claims, Mr. SNYDER
appears likely to have crossed the line from braggadocio
and would now be prosecutable under the STOLEN VALOR ACT of 2005. As
noted in my opening paragraph, I am a private individual and am in no
way affiliated with the US Department of Defense or the US government.
Despite any reports you may make/send to me regarding Mr. SNYDER’s
false SEAL claims, any such information which I might pass along to
the federal authorities (FBI, DCIS) in this matter would be classified
as “hearsay” and therefore inadmissible in a court of law. The
responsibility for reporting the individual named in your inquiry to
the federal authorities as a military imposter rests with you and with
anyone else who may have personally heard or received these claims
from the individual himself. Whether or not you decide to report him
to the federal authorities is entirely up to you, but at least you now
know the truth regarding his bogus claims. Respectfully, Steve
