QUOTE:
Tom Nabors is a full-blooded Sioux Indian and Vietnam
Vet who was a POW in Cambodia; right there I feel like
you can grasp the intensity of the stories this man has to tell.
Like all full-blooded Native Americans, he has absolutely no facial
hair and skin that, although weathered by time, maintains an
ambiguous sense of youth. He referred to himself (and me) as a
“redskin” and if you ask him how old he is, he will crack his
lips to give you a toothless smile and answer, “Forever 37.”
.....
For someone with such a violent, painful history I can honestly tell
you that Tom is a true gentle soul. It’s hard to believe when he
tells you what it feels like to kill somebody, or how he
was forced to practice cannibalism in the POW camp, but I
think all of that made him appreciate life and breath in a manner
that most of us cannot. He is a man who has nothing, who hates no
one ....

Tom Nabors is not his legal given name and there
was plenty of personal information and artifacts which verified his
story. I chose not to share all of this with everyone as Tom disclosed
it to me in confidence. Obviously, I will not be posting private

John Lester Norman
John was only Seventeen (17) when he
joined the United States Army. Sent to Vietnam, as a radio
operator, he is still trying to live with the guilt of having been the
only one to be holding the antennae that was seen by the enemy in the
jungle brush on the Cambodian border. He will never be able to
forget watching them murder his Lieutenant while he remained in a
6'x6'metal box with his hands and feet tied together behind his back.
For days he lay there baking in that box with his shoulders dislocated
and sure he would die. When the Marines rescued him, he felt
guilty that he was leaving alive and others had died because of that
antennae...the "IF ONLY'S" continue to haunt him on this and
countless other missions where he lived and his fellow soldiers
died...some gutted alive while he watched helplessly, others still
Missing in Action that he may never know if they died quickly or are
still being tortured today the way his was.
His only consolation was that he was
going to come home and be greeted by supporters who would make him
feel that this trauma was worth it because he was fighting a war that
had to be fought. Perhaps, he would be able to forgive himself,
if they would let him know how much they appreciated his sacrifices.
As he stepped of the plane in his United States Army uniform, a crowd
booing at him and calling him a baby killer greeted him. When
one of the crowd members spit on him as he passed he quickly got his
luggage and went to the airport bathroom where he changed into
civilian clothes and for the nest twenty five (25) years refused to
admit he was ever a soldier in the United States Army. After
broken relationships and nearly drinking and drugging himself to
death, John finally checked into a PTSD program in a Veterans
Hospital. A three (3) month program lasted thirteen (13) months
for him. He was able to make it clean and sober for over a year
until his world fell apart again. A divorce, three of his
friends from Vietnam committing suicide, his brother's and his
father's alcohol related deaths pushed him back to hiding in his own
drunken stupor. Most people don't understand why someone with a full
service connected disability and plenty of money to live where he
wanted would be homeless. John will be the first to say that
homelessness is not only a financial issue, it is a heart issue.
Without connections and having a purpose, there is no reason to settle
down and have a "home".
After his sixth (6) drunk driving
charge, John was offered a place to stay at Randlin Home. He was
doing wellbut when he moved out and got involved with someone, the
relationship triggered old memories and the cycle began to repeat
itself. Now facing prison after violating his probation by
drinking and disorderly conduct, John is back in treatment dealing
with PTSD issues again. He will be coming back to Randlin Home's
second transitional facility where they will work with his probation
officer to provide an alternative to revocation in a supportive home
setting. John will be assured of transportation to his regular
mental health and medical treatment and will also be monitored to
ensure his sobriety. His medications will be managed so he is
not tempteed to self medicate with more than is prescribed and he will
have access to crisis intervention twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven
(7) days a week. John is part of a family again where he is
loved and appreciated for his sacrifices. He also serves on the
Randlin Home Advisory Board to speak to the needs of Veterans that are
in search of the kind of help that Randlin Home can provide.

Claims:
POW, SEAL, Annapolis Naval Academy grad
06/2000 - Claims to be a Tlingit (Alaskan) Native American who's the
"most decorated Native American in the country" and who
is the "only Navey Seal authorized to still wear his Navy
Whites at public ceremonies." HE claims to be one of the last
POW's to leave Viet Nam. That, he was the one shown being removed
from the tail area of the airplane (C17?) on a gurney... (Life
magazine.) Says he was the guy who scratch the piano keys into the
floor of his cell and that this is what he used to "keep
himself sane." Many mroe stories like that... all under the
portence of being a decorated Seal.
About 3 years ago a Indian claiming to be a Lieutenant
in the Navy Seals was around. He said he was captured and rather than
give up the location of his men the Viet Cong ripped out his finger and
toe nails. That is why he walks the way he walks. His last name is
North Star. He said they named a Blvd. after him at juneau Alaska. I had
just purchased a book about that time called "Stolen Valor"
and became interested in so called wannabees. I served south of Saigon
out of a base called "Nha Be" which was decommissioned or
turned over to the South Vietnamese in 1972. I asked him "North
Styar" and "Raymond Aucker" if they served around there
but could never get a answer. They seem to be waiting for my question or
answer. The usual response was still classified or I don't want to talk
about it. Have to go. will keep in touch. Paul
At 4/16/2005 12:02 PM -0700, you wrote:
I was introduced to a man claiming
to be a Vietnam veteran who claimed to be a Navy SEAL team leader in
Vietnam and was a POW for 4 yrs and 3 days. As a POW the
enemy pulled off all his finger nails and toe nails (his fingernails
are all missing, I never saw him without shoes on so I can't vouch for
his toenails being gone). He also claims that the enemy plucked
several of his teeth out and showed me several gold crowns in his
upper and lower jaws. Claims he has cancer from Agent Orange and
that he receives treatment at the VA and does not have to wait in line
because of his Navy SEAL Lt. rank. He claims to be a
Native American holy man (medicine man) from the Linlit (spelling??)
tribe of Alaska. I was asked if this man could stay at a home I
have for disabled people and I said no problem. He was to stay
for a couple of days because he was worn out from his cancer and
needed a couple days rest. He stayed for approx 2 1/2 weeks
during which time he captured my interest with the medicine man
routine and my respect and gratitude for fighting and suffering in a
war, (thank you from depth of my soul to all the men and women who
have put their lives on the line for this country and its people, I
honor each and every one of you whether you are still hear with us or
watching over from heaven. Thank you) So I let him stay
and told him he was welcome for as long as he needed a place.
Then some things didn't add up and I decided to surf the internet for
info on Navy SEAL team leaders. What I found was this website
and the phony list. I was shocked to say the least. So
just to make sure I called a phone number provided and spoke to a
gentleman at the Dept of Defense POW/MIA Dept. and was told that
Timothy Star or Timothy North Star was never a POW. I went
straight home and confronted my war hero (who by the way claims he
escaped from the prison camp) and said "Hey North Star I spoke
with a man today from the Department of Defense and they want you to
call them right away. Apparently you escaped from a POW camp
that they are completely unaware of and now that you have surfaced
they want to see you so that they can get your comrades out of there
right away. So here is the phone and the number ...he stared at
me...I told him he had three choices. call the number in the
morning so any prisoners that may still be there are freed or help me
understand why you found it necessary to lie to me and con me with
your bullsxxt or be gone when I wake up. He chose to be
gone when I woke up. WARNING to all,
this man Timothy Star goes by the name of North Star and claims to be
a Holly Man (medicine man) he got me for $200.00 and almost another
$750.00 that he promised to pay back after he returned from Red Lake
after he and the other medicine men were done burning the dead
children from the shooting that took place there a few weeks ago.
He returned the clothes and misc things I had given to him and left
with a Smith and Wesson hunting knife and a one way bus voucher to
South Dakota (I canceled the bus ticket). The last word is that
he called a friend of mine on 4-16-05 from 605-584-4672. Don't
let this man con you and get your money or possessions and if anyone
sees him....let him know that you know he is a FAKE! the Piece
of S#%T!
Hey North Star....Make your amends and set
your self free...I will pray for you Star.

story someone reported to you on 4/16/05, with an addition of being
the pipe organ pianist for Rev. Billy Graham at one time and the
organist for St. James Episcopal Church on Wilshire Blvd. LA....A Navy
Seal as he claims and a POW and being decorated with purple hearts,
bronze cluster and a Navy Cross in 1972 by Pres. Nixon He claims to be
a medicine man from Juno Alaska of the Klingit tribe.
=========================================
08/2006 - This is to update your entry on Timothy North
Star. He is living in southern California and he is still claiming
to be a former Navy SEAL and Vietnam POW.
Timothy North Star is living in
the greater Los Angeles area. You see him occasionally at local
pow-wow's and claims to be undergoing cancer treatment in Santa
Monica. Besides still claiming to be a former Navy sea
officer, a Vietnam POW, and Navy Cross winner, he arrived in LA
with many original sacred items from S. Dakota. These I saw myself
and they were originals not fakes, and we were wondering who in
their right mind would allow Tim North Star to carry some other
family's medician like that.
No Lakota that I know of would every allow a non Lakota to bear
such items. So we think they might have been stolen or taken
by other means and sold here in LA. If anyone who reads this
has knowledge of what was taken then you should use this info to
help in maybe tracking it down and returning to the proper family. CONTACT

He claims to be a Native American Indian from the Klingit tribe in
Juneau Alaska (he even demonstrated some of his own dialect for
me). Same stories as from the others here. only
additional information was that he has a wife (Nancy?), a boy, and
a set of twin girls. he also claims to have adopted a boy
from his sister (?) who had died in a car accident or something.
He came to our church and claimed to have been in the area to
speak at a conference. He did have a pack of old
pictures showing him in white naval attire with lots of medals on
his chest. Dark hair, 5' 11".
05/2007
It's a very sad day
for all of us here who listened to him give the most beautiful
speech and defend the rights to maintain the prayer site for the
medicine men for the Indian Nations here on the west coast (they
are likely to lose this site). He had several of us crying with
the most beautiful speech about memorializing not only the dead,
but those currently in Iraq and how he really wanted our soldiers
to come home.

At 09/27/2001 0157
PM -0700; I am a deputy district
attorney in San Diego County. I prosecuted Robert Nydegger for the
murder of Timothy Cudd (USN retired) He was found guilty of first degree
murder on 2-20-1991 in San Diego Superior Court Case CR102161. He had
previously claimed he was a SEAL. That was debunked at trial with
Microfiche records and the testimony of Master Chief Ray Hollenbeck (20
year SEAL) He also claimed that he was captured in Laos and spent time
with Colonel Shelton USAF. This psycho also told his Shelton's wife he
was dead as he had escaped with him and when recaptured the Pathet Lao
(sp?) had thrown Sheltons shoes, still containing his severed feet back
in the tiger cage.
This fraud gave speeches and
marched in parades for POWs. He was sentenced to prison for 25 years to
life and will not be eligible for parole until 2008. I was proud to nail
this liar..

would suggest that the authors of this site, which I just found,
look into the California Penal system records as I know Mr. Nydegger
was recently up for parole and his service record was brought in to

During the proceeding it was made clear that the penal system as
part of protocol had been provided with a complete copy of Mr.

proof, should be researched and if you can’t say that you can
prove they have lied, they should be removed. Haven’t veterans of
Vietnam suffered enough, why do we have to continue to punish them?

My name is Loyd Olin......I have just
gone on your site and found the information that you have printed
about me.....why did you not notify me first to obtain correct
information on me......you just chose to print information you found
on the internet.....first of all let me say" THAT I AM NOT A
POW AND NEVER CLAIMED TO BE".....a POW is a soldier that has
been captured and held for at least 30 days.....I
was only away from my unit for 10 days which included torture, bieng
left to die in a cage shoved in the mud, leaches which made a meal
of me until i went unconscious, and bieng rescued and probably sold
back to my unit but this I don't know for sure.....you
made a statement about my service in Vietnam......my Vietnam service
was Aug.64 to Aug.65......which I have a DD214 to prove......
I have dedicated a big part of my life
to the POW issue and feel the same way as you do about wanabees......but
you have made a big mistake here in making assumptions......you have
even put a block on my computer on your site.......are you seeking
the truth or do you just want to bash me?????? I
chalange you to talk to my friends......ask them how I feel about
POW......ask them if I ever told anyone I was POW......I want to
meet with you and your husband to clear this up immediately.......

11/2007:
I am not writing this to validate all
my dads claims, however my dad was a POW and I have possession of the
paperwork to prove it along with possession of his medals. You see the
PSD that my dad suffered from because of the war starting causing
other illnesses such as narcism. I seen there is a picture of my dad
on the Internet in a suit with the CSM label before his signature.
Story behind this basically was my dad was bullshitting a woman and
her friends. If another veteran would have asked my dad if he was a
CSM he would have said NO HE WAS NOT. However he was a special forces
101st airborne sniper. Back to this illness thing my dad would become
very confused about events regarding all sorts of things. I'm not
talking even war events, things such as visiting people and going
places, he would be confused as to what took place. So some
people might have heard some bullshit stories boo fucking hoo, because
of my dad being in the war he is no longer with me on this earth. He
passed away do to an enlarged heart which was caused by his pain
medication for injuries (gunshot wound to the head) he suffered while
serving our country. I really do not care if you leave him in this
area of your site, I just wanted to clear up some things.
Sincerely,

THE
Author would like to add that under the VALOR ACT signed into law
DEC, 20,2006 the time frame in this book from when he entered Viet
Nam in 1964, and his time in Cambodia cannot be verified. The Author
is not trying to claim a POW recognition status. The Author is not a
member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, nor is he affiliated with
any other POW organization. The Author is a member of the American
Legion. The Author would like the readers to make up their own minds
about the topics in his book. The Author was stationed with ACU-2
and on board the USS AUSTIN LPD-4 during this time frame of
1964-1967 [ DD-214 FORMS FOR PROOF ] of the story. The Author would
like to mention that all events from 1975 up to 1992 are documented
in DOD Records except the cover up of OPERATION PRAYING MANTIS in
1988 while he was on board the USS BAGLEY FF-1069. The Author would
also like to state that this is a story that has non -fiction and
fiction events, and is for the entertainment of the reader. The
Author is not in any way trying to discredit any POW organization.
The Author needed to tell his story in order to heel himself
mentally and emotionally from time served (1964 to 1992). The Author
did pass the Chief Petty Officer test (E-7). The Author did retire
as First Class Petty Officer SH 1 [SW] and has not been advanced in
RANK since retirement. Because of the Freedom of Information Act,
anyone who needs to or has the desire to, can pull all DD-214
forms. One under the old service number 778-68-83 The others are now
under his Social Security Number.

was recommissioned on 29
November 1961.
Assigned to Amphibious Squadron 4, she began a routine alternating
operations off the East Coast with 6th Fleet deployments to the Mediterranean
and to the Caribbean. In October 1964, she participated in Operation
Steel Pike I, during which the ship served as a primary control
vessel and boat repair ship. Upon completion of Steel Pike, the dock
landing ship visited ports in Spain
and Portugal
before returning to Little
Creek, Virginia, her home
port, on 19
November.
Early
in February 1965, Ashland took part in Operation
FirEx, a joint Navy-Marine Corps exercise off the Puerto Rican
coast and returned to Little Creek on 6
March. She got underway for the Mediterranean in June along with
five other ships of Amphibious Squadron 4 and there served in six
amphibious landing exercises. During this deployment, she visited
nine European ports of call before returning to her home port on 3
November.
The
ship was deployed to the Caribbean on 3
March 1966
as part of the Caribbean Ready Group and conducted numerous
amphibious landings, including Operation
Beachtime which involved over 40 ships of the 2d Fleet. Upon her
return to Little Creek on 27
June, Ashland conducted upkeep until sailing for Narragansett
Bay on 18
July for a series of training exercises. She was back in Little
Creek later that month and went alongside Amphion
for an availability. Ashland spent the next few months in
training exercises and then entered the Norfolk

November for overhaul....
