On April 22, 1974, the Central Identification
Laboratory-Thailand (CILT, now DPAA) identified the remains of
Captain Robert Larry Weskamp, missing from the Vietnam War.
Captain Weskamp, who joined the U.S. Air Force from Colorado,
served with the 14th Air Commando Wing. On April 25, 1967, he
piloted an F-105D Thunderchief (serial number 62-4294) on a
mission over enemy targets in North Vietnam. During the mission,
the Thunderchief was shot down by anti-aircraft artillery.
Captain Weskamp ejected from his aircraft before it went down
and was captured by enemy forces, but died later that day from
injuries he sustained in the crash. In 1974, the Vietnamese
government repatriated human remains to the U.S. that were
identified as those of Capt Weskamp.
